Cultural Exchange

Kultur LängsbildSGI believes that cultural exchange is an ideal way to develop ties of friendship between people of different cultures and nationalities. Cultural and musical festivals are often central elements of these activities, building mutual appreciation of diverse cultural heritages.

Besides of culture festivals, concerts and readings by various national and international artists, organized by the OSGI, there has been a strong co-operation between SGI's afiliated organisations Min-On and Tokyo Fuji Art Museum and both the OSGI and Austrian cultural institutions, such as the Vienna Künstlerhaus, the Vienna State Opera and the Vienna Konzerthaus.

In 1973, the Mozart Boys Choir was invited by the Min-On Concert Association, to tour Japan, followed by the Vienna State Opera in 1980 and the Salzburg Camerata Academica in 1986. In 1991 and 1994, pre-selections of the Min-on International Tokyo Conductor's Competition were held at the Vienna Konzerthaus.

Cultural exchanges between the Tokyo Fuji Art Museum and various Austrian Institutions include the exhibition of "Treasures of Japanese Art" at the Vienna Künstlerhaus (1992), and "Treasures of the Imperial Household: Collection of the Museen des Mobiliendepots Hofsilber-& Tafelkammer und K.K. Hofmobiliendepots, Vienna" at TFAM, Tokyo (1998), to name a few.
